Doctor Shlifer's practice was as normal as could be; normal until a patients failure to cover their mouth when coughing changed the Doctor's life permanently.

After that incident, Dr. Shlifer has devoted all of her spirit into the research and treatment of, arguably, two of the most misunderstood, misdiagnosed and life destructing illnesses: Chronic Fatique Syndrome, CFS and Fibromyalgia or FMS.

These two anomolies became her focus after she, and her family became ill after the incident with that patient. Now well, Dr. Shlifer has started to form her practice into, what is basically, a large study group. The group consists of family, friends, patients and co-workers who all share the common string of being ill and on treatment.

Her motivation isn't money. Nor is it fame. Nor is it to feed her ego. Her motivation is rooted in realizing that she can make a difference in people's lives by concentrating on what makes us ill, rather than just masking our symptoms.

And so, this web site was designed as a means to give hope through support and understanding, but mostly through education for me, and all the sufferers, and their families, of FMS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I have designed this site becasue I wanted to thank Dr. Shlifer, Michelle and everyone at the practice for giving me hope. So, share your stories, share your set backs and your triumphs. This site is for us, everyone who, by some force of nature has been brought together under one roof; Dr. Shlifer's.

So, please utilize the pages search engines, the articles and studies. The pages will be under constant revision, so be sure to book mark the site and review it often. Also, feel free to email the web master, me, with ideas on how I can improve this site.

To Rise Above and Lead with Hope

Recipe of the Month

Breakfast Potatoes

Submitted by William King

This is a fast, easy alternative to the processed, frozen spuds. This recipe will serve 4, unless it's me, then it will serve me.(Yeah, I know, but what's an old drummer to do)

  • 4 - Potatoes, peeled and coursley chopped.
  • 1- cup diced onion (yellow or white is fine. Reds tend to add a little bitterness, so I don't use them. This really rocks during Walla Walla season)
  • 1/2 cup - diced red bell pepper
  • Garlic - At least 2 cloves mashed
  • 2 teaspoons - Summer Savory(Preferably leaf, not ground)
  • 2 shakes Cayenne pepper(more or less to your liking. The dish does need it though)
  • 4 Squirts, Shakes Worcestershire Sauce
  • Olive oil
  • 1 cup - Freshly chopped parsley(About a cup here really, I use a handful)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and Coat the bottom with olive oil. I use the oil in place of butter. But, feel free to use whatever like, just as long as it's not margarine. The flavor just doesn't work with dish.
  2. Add the potatoes, making sure to stir them so they are coated. Throw in 2 to 3 good pinches of Kosher salt(the only kind I use) and 3 to 4 grinds of fresh black pepper. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 5, to 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the lid and toss, stir the potatoes. You'll do this about 4 times, or until they are just getting tender and developing golden color.
  4. When the potatoes are just tender, remover the lid and add the onions, red bell peppers and toss. Drizzle some olive oil at this point over the potatoes. Not to much, just enough to help those aromatics get translucent. Cover and cook until the onions are translucent, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Remove the lid...we' re done with it now. Add the reaming ingredients and give it a good toss, or stir.
  6. Increase the heat to medium- high. Stir often. You want to have the potatoes forming a beautiful dark, golden color.
  7. Taste the potatoes to make sure the salt and pepper levels are good, then add the chopped parsley. Empty the potatoes to a serving bowl, or my case a shovel, and enjoy.

THIS

I never asked for this, I was one of those fireballs. Making VP at age 28. A musician and wood worker, a husband and lover. I never asked for this.

I never wanted this. The feelings of despair and pain so intense it left little room for creativity, much less love. I never wanted this.

I have to beat this. New ideas followed by caring support and genuine concern from strangers wanting to make a difference. I have to beat this.

We will rise above this. Our life will return to us. We will be able to sing again. We will play with our children again. For me, My wife and I will try again, a girl this time I think. We will rise above this.

It's time for this to go away. Its time for this to be nothing. Its time for this, for this hell to be swept away by friends and family ever loving and supporting.

We will win again. We are winning again. WE are smiling again. We are Happy again. So this is not too strong for us, for we are united in our actions against this.
